This introductory session initiates the English Network professional development series. It has been specifically developed in response to the writing framework and curriculum review to furnish leaders with guidance for elevating and raising educational standards. The inaugural session aligns with subsequent English Network sessions scheduled throughout the year. This session, and the ensuing network, provides an overview of recommended approaches for improving teaching and learning within English.

- The power of transcription: How handwriting, spelling and sentence structure underpin writing success and the importance of mastering this early.
- Grammar, punctuation and spelling: What the new guidance means for GPS teaching and practical ways of embedding grammar within writing to create fluency within writing.
- Curriculum review: Summary of ongoing curriculum review activity and how schools can future-proof their curriculum and planning.
- Impact of the new Inspection Framework on English leaders: Analysis of the impact of current Ofsted expectations on English leaders regarding the new inspection framework.
- Professional Collaboration: Facilitating the sharing of high-leverage best practices among peers.
Keely Adams is an experienced assistant head and English leader. She has been responsible for the English curriculum throughout KS1 and KS2 in multiple schools. She has experience of working as a school improvement leader where she focused on developing teaching and learning across all subjects and she has also worked as an English advisor for the local authority where she supported a number of schools in their development and leadership of English.
